Quest University, Canada, operated from 2007-2023 as a private, not-for-profit institution. It was founded with an aim to revolutionize undergraduate education, by allowing students to design their own educational path. Students do not declare majors, rather they ask a central Question which guides their studies. Each student follows a personalized academic pathway, with close guidance from a faculty mentor. In their final two years, students complete a Keystone Project focused on answering their Question. Most themes place sustainable development and climate change at their core. Example questions included “What are the effects of sharing economies?” and “How does water shape the earth?”. All first year students take common courses across a breadth of disciplines, with a focus is on problem-based learning.
