Institutional Approach

The University of South Florida (USF) was one of the first schools in the USA to establish a School of Sustainability – the Patel College of Global Sustainability. USF has a mandate to integrate SDGs across all research and education, with a strong focus on students as engaged citizens. This is largely realized through their Global Citizens Project, a university-wide initiative aimed at enhancing sustainability competencies for both students and any other interested individuals. The Global Citizens Project website makes available various tools, such as a Global Competency Test and access to co-curricular events and projects. The Project is also used as a framework for designating over 140 undergraduate courses as ‘Global Citizens Courses’, and 11 degree programs as ‘Global Pathways’.
